Johor’s Investment Momentum: A Unique Opportunity for Family Offices in Forest City

Johor’s Record Investment Performance

Johor’s market has been increasingly prevalent in investor portfolios, having garnered the confidence of international and domestic investors in its booming economy. According to State Investment, Trade, Consumer Affairs and Human Resources Committee chairman Lee Ting Han, Johor sustained its position as Malaysia’s leading investment destination, having recorded 56 billion RM in the first half of 2025. This amount represented almost 30% of Malaysia’s total investment in this period of 190.3 billion RM, and was rooted by Johor’s highest investment performance in the first quarter of this year, recording 30.1 billion RM.

In a Facebook post following this announcement, Lee attributed Johor’s rise to a strong industrial ecosystem, ranging from electrical and electronics hub, chemicals, logistics, data centres, sustainable energy, to port infrastructure, highways and local talents. He also commended Johor’s Invest Malaysia Facilitation Centre, which reduced the approval process time, thus ensuring the prompt carrying-out of investments. This resulted in proactive investment facilitation, drawing investors into Johor.

This achievement has been acknowledged by Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, who stated that it stems from initiatives like the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), which is one of Malaysia’s selling points as a strategic manufacturing and services hub within ASEAN.

Economic Transformation and Impact

As a result of the rise of investments within Johor, Lee predicted the increase of economic capacity within Johor, as well as the creation of highly skilled jobs for Johoreans. At the same time, it will offer SMEs greater opportunities to integrate into global supply chains, driving technological change. These developments are aligned with Johor’s aspiration to become a digital and advanced industrial hub in line with Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap and ESG commitments.
